El artículo estudia la obra de Melchor Martínez, Memoria histórica sobre la revolución de Chile compuesta por encargo del rey Fernando VII en 1815. Desde la perspectiva de la historia de la historiografía, el análisis aborda el contexto político de producción de la obra, los debates metodológicos en su confección y las hipótesis explicativas que orientaron la narración del autor. El artículo examina cómo esta obra muestra los dilemas epistemológicos de escribir la historia de la revolución en tiempo presente y la politización de la historiografía en la época de las independencias hispanoamericanas.
