La trajectoire de Francisco Esquivel, prêtre du Michoacan, est ici retracée : de
séminariste à capitaine des Cristeros, pour enfin finir prêtre. L’article se base de
deux récits autobiographiques inédits qui viennent enrichir la littérature sur la
guerre des Cristeros. Les raisons qui ont conduit le séminariste à prendre les
armes sont analysées en tant que partie intégrante de la controverse séculaire
existant dans la pensée chrétienne sur la légitimité de la violence.
