Cette recherche montre la vie professionnelle du médecin Ponciano Tenorio Montes
(1912-1963). Il a été le premier médecin avec la formation en psychiatrie qui a
exercé sa carrière à l’état du Michoacan. De la même façon, cette recherche montre
les antécédents historiques et les circonstances qui l’ont mené à fonder à Morelia le
cours de neuropsychiatrie (1950-1952), le premier dans le pays et aussi le premier
hôpital pour les malades mentaux au Michoacan en 1958. Ponciano Tenorio Montes
a aussi été le régent du Collège Primitif et National de San Nicolás de Hidalgo
(1945-46), délégué de la Faculté de Médecine de l’Université Michoacana dans le
IV Congrès International de Santé Mental à Mexico (au mois de décembre 1951). Il
a aussi été à Jalapa pour la Première Réunion Formelle de L’Association
Psychiatrique de l’Amérique Latine (APAL). Il est considéré un des médecins plus
brillants de son temps et c’est pourquoi la connaissance de son oeuvre contribue à
faire comprendre le passé récent de la médecine au Michoacan.
