Dans cet article on étudie le développement historique des premières forges qui ont
été fondées au Mexique au XIXe. siècle. On analyse particulièrement l’évolution
de la forge de Notre Dame de Guadalupe, établie par le minéralogiste Andrés
Manuel del Río à Coalcomán en 1805 et à celle de Piedras Azules qui a été bâtie à
Durango en 1826. On étudie également d’autres forges qui ont été fondées où se
trouvent actuellement les états de Jalisco, Guanajuato, Hidalgo, Morelos et Oaxaca.
Le fil conducteur des cas étudiés fait référence aux continuités et changements
technologiques qui ont été employés dans les systèmes de fonte et de bénéfice des
matériaux ferreux. On étudie aussi l’usage du fer à l’élaboration des instruments
agricoles, à l’extraction de minéraux, et à la construction de pièces des moulins des
raffineries de sucre.
