Le présent article étudie le procès criminel que les autorités du conseil municipal du village de San José de Cúcuta intentèrent en 1799 contre des esclaves et leur maître suite à l’incendie de petites fermes occupées par des paysans sur les terres du propriétaire inculpé. L’article analyse de quelle manière ces esclaves devinrent des bandits au service de leur maître, leurs motivations à commettre le délit et les conditions con-flictuelles présentes en toile de fond du litige.
