La preocupación por la degeneración racial estuvo presente en México desde las últimas décadas del siglo XIX. Desde entonces, diversas teorías y corrientes de pensamiento fueron del conocimiento de médicos e intelectuales mexicanos. El darwinismo social y el degeneracionismo influyeron notablemente en las concepciones sobre el progreso social del país, sobre todo la idea de la "homogeneización racial” y el control de los mecanismos de herencia. El propósito de este texto es el de analizar cómo el Estado posrevolucionario mexicano implementó políticas públicas que intervinieran en aspectos tales como el desarrollo de la población e incluso la sexualidad, a fin de evitar la “degeneración de la raza”.
