Entre 1711 y 1713 la Inquisición de Cartagena de Indias procesó a Magdalena
Hodston, una fémina de “nación inglesa”, quien radicó en esa ciudad portuaria,
generando grandes interrogantes. Su caso es significativo pues no existen estudios
sobre el tema. En este sentido, su causa nos permitirá reflexionar no sólo sobre
su historia de vida, sino también sobre el control religioso que ejercía la
Inquisición y la movilidad de las mujeres protestantes en los dominios hispánicos,
misma que se enmarca en las relaciones diplomáticas de la Monarquía española
con otros reinos.
