La Historia de las Relaciones Internacionales constituye un fenómeno sumamente reciente tanto en la historiografía española como en la latinoamericana. En ambos casos, además, el creciente interés por los estudios en torno a la historia de las relaciones exteriores se ha circunscrito a analizar el marco de relaciones establecido por las principales potencias con esos actores marginales del escenario internacional que fueron España o las repúblicas latinoamericanas durante las dos últimas centurias.
