El año 1856 evidenció el paso de algunas mujeres de receptoras del
sermón del párroco en el púlpito a emisoras de un discurso político en
la tribuna del Congreso Constituyente. ¿Qué incitó a las mujeres,
tradicionalmente recluidas al ámbito del hogar, a asomarse al
Congreso, lugar masculino por antonomasia? El debate sobre la
tolerancia religiosa. Sin embargo, esta sencilla respuesta remite a ciertas
interrogantes. ¿Quiénes eran estas mujeres? ¿Qué argumentos
sostenían en las representaciones que enviaron al Congreso? ¿Cómo
se organizaron? ¿Por qué decidieron entrar en la arena política? Éstas
son algunas de las preguntas que se intentarán responder aquí.
