En este trabajo, se hace un seguimiento acerca de los principales hallazgos
arqueológicos registrados en tierras michoacanas durante el siglo xix. Los esfuerzos
para fundar un museo destinado al resguardo del patrimonio cultural
heredado del pasado, sobre todo colecciones de objetos arqueológicos, documentos,
libros antiguos, periódicos, fotografías, testimonios etnográicos
de los michoacanos de generaciones pasadas. También, se destaca el interés
por los estudios antropológicos y sobre las lenguas indígenas, especialmente
la tarasca. Se resaltan las contribuciones hechas a esa clase de estudios por los
eclesiásticos José Guadalupe Romero, Francisco Plancarte y Navarrete y Sebastián
Olivares, así como los del médico Nicolás León y el etnólogo noruego
Carl Lumholtz.
