Este artículo se propone exponer el ambiente social y político creado en Nue-vas España tras la invasión francesa de la península ibérica en 1808, a partir del análisis de 16 juicios de infidencia contra individuos acusados de atentar contra el monarca español, que llevó a cabo una tribunal especial, la junta de seguridad y buen orden, creado por el virrey-arzobispo Francisco Xavier Lizana y Beaumont en 1809. Trata de poner de relieve el clima de temor social y la extendida fidelidad monárquica que al mismo tiempo generó la invasión, y las maneras en que operó, en momentos de crisis, la mentalidad colectiva.
