Hace ya muchos años el erudito historiador Genaro García dio a
conocer en el tomo V de sus Documentos Históricos Mexicanos, varios
expedientes con documentos oficiales provenientes de distintos
repositorios públicos y privados, los cuales contenían noticias
interesantes sobre decenas de mujeres que habían participado de
manera diferente en la guerra de Independencia. La vida de una de
ellas fue la que particularmente atrajo su atención: Leona Vicario,
huérfana a temprana edad, sobrina de Agustín Pomposo Fernández
de San Salvador y futura esposa del joven abogado yucateco, Andrés
Quintana Roo, uno de los principales ideólogos y editorialistas del
movimiento de Independencia.
